We need the bees

http://www.environmentcalifornia.org/programs/cae/no-bees-no-food

Millions of bees are dying off, and we rely on bees to pollinate 71 of the 100 crops that provide 90% of most of all the world's food. We rely on bees to pollinate everything from almonds to strawberries to the hay we use to feed dairy cows. So what happens when all the bees die off? We don't get the foods we need to survive.

  1. It is amazing to see how important bees are to our agriculture. Before we didn't think the bees are THAT important. I was wondering that what will happen if all the bees really did die off?

  3. I noticed that bees are dying of in California as well as Massachusetts, so I was wondering, are the bees in California dying off for the same reasons as the ones in Massachusetts?

    1. Im guessing that since BIG companies are using pesticides, the effect is all over the USA. However, in Massachusetts, winter could also be an extra effect as to why they are dying off. Maybe graphing the number of bees dying at a certain time of year and in different places with different conditions will help.

  5. This just goes to show that bees aren't the pests that most people think of them as. Do bees affect the environment of other places in the US besides California?

  6. I think that this is such an interesting topic because we as humans take so many things for granted and we just expect something as common as an apple will be easily obtainable but with just one slight change the things that we were once running screaming of in fear of being stung are now one of the most important animals in the eyes of everyone. I was wondering if the loss of flowers/food would have a bigger impact than just of fruits and vegetables because there are other animals that eat plant so they will die and the animals that eat those animals will die and so on and so forth until we have nothing left to eat.

  8. Before i didn't know that bees are so important for our environment. We need to protect the bees better. Big companies need to stop using parasites.

  10. If Global warming, is one of the causing of why bees are dying, how will we increase the population of bees?

  15. What is it that is killing the bees? Is it natural extinction or us? If it is us, I find it weird that we get to complain about something that we caused & could have stopped awhile back. -Rafael-MA

  16. This Is a great post the cause for the massive bee deaths is a huge problem in america. I think people should be funding the EPA more for problems like this. I thought that it is really interesting how much of the population is dying. How can we save them

  19. The fact that the bees pollinate 71% of the crops is crazy and also the fact that they are dying off if even more crazy. I was just wondering what will happen to the crops when the bees all die off or there is not enough to pollinate any crops?
