We have to drink less water?

The State of California is reccomending cutting water by 35%! Thats a lot of water and many people are resisting. But under the states preliminary plan communities that don't meet the required cuts will have to pay a huge fine. Up to 10,000 dollars a day. Some communities though are asking the requirement to be lower due to the upcoming warm and dry summer. Mr. Durkin form a district near Sacramento said "The state water board should consider the regions dry, warm summers when setting the rate." Especially for inner state valley regions, where they don't get much rain anyway.

  1. What if they actually cut water down by 35%? I think that cutting down the water might be our only solution for at this point. Its a good idea. But the prices rising might not be a good idea. Many people might have different opinions about the price rising. The topic will definitely be up for debate.

    1. Absolutely, the government of California is really struggling right now to get people to save water though. Not to mention, cutting our water usage by 35% would put an enormous stress on the agricultural business.

  3. I think it is interesting that there is such a big fine for not meeting the cutback requirements. $10,000 every day is a lot of money, and it gives incentive to use as little water as possible. I wonder how much water California has left. I also wonder how much extra time these water cuts will give California before they run out of water.

  9. How long will it take for the drought to go away and for things to get back to normal? I thought it was interesting how they made the fine a huge number to decrease the amount of people who disobey the water restrictions.

  11. It is interesting to me that California has not shipped in water from another state or country. It seems as though the states in the Pacific NorthWest have more than enough water to share some. Will California import water in the future?

  13. This is crazy! I know many people who live in CA and used to live there. I could never imagine having to drink less water. Water is essential for life, and cutting down on it could really affect how people live in the coming years. We have an abundance of water here in MA and with all of the snow melting, we end up with floods! If there was so efficient way of transporting our water to CA that would definitely help. Unfortunately, it takes 6 hours to fly directly to CA and transporting water by land, would be even harder. I was wondering, we waste so much water every year, whether it's showering, drinking or having fun, maybe if we cut down on our water everywhere, there will be enough to store in case of emergencies like these.
