For the third winter in a row starving sea lion pups are washing up on Californian beaches. "Since January 1, nearly 500 of the tiny animals have been admitted to the state's rehabilitation centers—a number many times higher than normal." I think this is a huge problem, because this is really bad for the sea lion population. The fact this is happening over and over again means that their is something is happening to the sea lions population, people need to find out what this is before it starts happening to other animals.
A www this is so sad... I think that this is a very important issue, as the lack of sea lions could really affect the ecosystem surrounding them. The scientists seem to be insinuating that there isn't a manifest reason behind this sudden die-off, which makes the solution much harder to find. I think that our best option as of right now is to keep funding the research and taking care of the sea lions that wash ashore. But they suggested that the issue may be contributed to by the lack of fish or the irregular population of fish, in which case maybe we could try something like restocking certain fish by breeding them in captivity and releasing them into the ocean. That could backfire pretty easily though, I guess. Anyway, I really hope that the sea lions are saved! :)
