Imbalance in mountain lions and deer pushes entire California ecosystem off its feet!
Here in California, our native mountain lions population has increased while its prey, the deer, has been decreasing. This has left the mountain lions with nothing to eat. What will they eat next? Read about it in the link below!

I wonder without deer to eat, will this have a drastic change with the food web and will then effect humans
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a big problem, and in most situations would right itself because the lions would run out of deer to eat, causing many of them to die off and let the deer rebound, but it seems possible that the readily available livestock are preventing this from happening. I wonder if protecting the livestock better could help the deer.
ReplyDeleteI found the Seasonal Movements section interesting because it shows how cunning and smart mountain lions can be in their hunting. I wonder if the mountain lions are dense in population because humans have taken the habitat that they lived in. Because of that, they may have been forced into a smaller area.
ReplyDeleteIt's terrible the situation that both the mountain lions and the deer are in. What will happen next? Will there be a big change in the ecosystem? Is this happening mostly because of humans? Will mountain lions have to die so that this species of deer will not go extinct? I really like your topic choice! It's very interesting!
ReplyDeleteLike the other people that have commented on this post I agree that this could majorly affect the food web and the populations of both animals. I wonder if there is any way that humans could somehow interfere with the populations to make them equal once again.

ReplyDeleteOne thing that interested me was that the mountain lions were not starving due to the low deer population, and as a result the deer population was staying low. Do you know why this is?
