California's Plan Bee

This article made me realize the importance of bees in our ecosystem. "We rely on bees to pollinate 71 of the 100 crops that provide 90% of most of the world’s food." With all the bees that are dying out, we might not have enough food to keep us going.

  1. I completely agree with you, Tilman. I didn't really know much about bees besides that they pollinate flowers, but now I know that they are much more important than that. One thing I read from the article that interested me was how in recent years, beekeepers report they’re losing on average 30% of all honeybee colonies each winter — twice the loss considered economically tolerable. If this keeps up, how could it affect California's crop production? Would this have a ripple effect on the entire nation?

  2. I agree with you guys because, i just thought bees pollinate flowers and cause very little percent of food to be made but now i get that bees are super duper important and nessicary for us to survive and if we loose the bees we might loose us.
