A possible answer to this UDDER COWtastrphie
As some of you may know, there is an ongoing imbalance in California, this is due to the unequal ratio of deer for the mountain lions, Bobcats and other predators to feast upon the deer. But due to the dropping survival rate of fawns, this is bad news for the predators of California, especially the mountain lions, thanks to the 51 percent of deer that get eaten. I think that there are many ways that we can fix this but an easier one would be to export the correct ratio of the recorded mountain lions to deer to other habitats so that the deer can regain their previous numbers. We could then put back the mountain lions slowly enough so that the deer polulation can be an even balance again.

ReplyDeleteWhere are they going to put the lions while the deer are repopulating again?
ReplyDeleteAnother reason to why the deer population is decreasing so there is not a equal amount for the mountain lions and other predators is deer hunting. If they decrease the amount of deer hunting that may help the population of deer to become an equal ration with their predators.

ReplyDeleteI agree with both Anthony and Lili and I am interested in some possible solutions to these problems such as is we ban the hunting of mountain lions in these regions. I also am curious where the funding to transporting the lions will be coming from if we do decide to move them.
ReplyDeleteI find it very interesting that we are looking at this problem of an uneven population of deers & predators & knowing that we can solve it easily. I would have always thought that this would be a hard task. Something I was wondering was how this project would pass to the next generations, since this would probably take a long time. Also, why does the title say COWtastrphie if this is about deer? -Rafael-MA

ReplyDeleteI find it very interesting that there is too many deers in California, whereas deers in the North East are overpopulated due to the lack of mountain lions or other predators. I wonder how the deer/ mountain lion dynamic effects the rest of the state's ecosystem?
