38,000 African Elephants of Plastic

Water pollution is a huge problem around the world, especially in California.  According to Science for Students, "If you could somehow weigh all the plastic floating in the world's oceans, it would equal the mass of roughly 38,000 African elephants."

  1. This really puts things into perspective! The explanation of how gyres work was fascinating as well, and gave a much more detailed explanation of how the whole process functions. I'm curious as to what will happen to the plastic materials that are unable to be recycled - bicycles and board games, to name two listed in the article.
