We might be having a drought, but rising sea levels are a big problem everywhere.
In this article I read, it talks about islands, specifically the Bahamas building sea walls to protect from devastating floods. This rise in sea waters is due to climate change. The article said, "NASSAU, May 29 (IPS) - Small Island Developing States (SIDS) have championed the phrase "1.5 to stay alive" in demanding that global temperature increases be kept as far below 1.5 degrees C as possible to limit the anticipated devastating effects of climate change on the world's most vulnerable countries."
If the sea level rises 5 feet, the bahamas will be completely gone under the waves. This is a huge problem and there must be some way we can prevent climate change that will be quick and protect our land so it doesn't all become water. I don't know about Massachusetts, but mill valley would definitely go under water if sea levels rose too much.

"In The Bahamas, if the sea level rises some five feet, 80 percent of the country would disappear." That's crazy! Obviously the whole world is at fault for global warming and rising sea levels, and the whole world has to do something about it. I'm sure that the grants they're getting is a bit helpful, but it's not going to solve the problem. I think that the only real answer to this problem is that everyone just needs to stop changing the climate so dramatically, and cut down on carbon emissions. Maybe there should be stricter laws enforced to cut down on global warming, like limiting the amount of driving people do, and making sure factories don't pollute the air as much.
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree with Mikaere, there should definitely be stronger, harsher laws regarding carbon emissions and gasoline. The problem though, is that tons of politicians are being payed by oil and fuel companies that promise to campaign for them if they don't enforce these laws. If we want not only our country, but our world to be happy and healthy, it starts with politicians that aren't corrupt or thirsty for money, that actually care about our well being and health.
ReplyDelete"In The Bahamas, if the sea level rises some five feet, 80 percent of the country would disappear." This is insane and we need to do something about it. I agree with both Mikaere and Zoe about making stricter laws to cut down on global warming, for factories to pollute less, and for people to drive less. There are some simple solutions like walking, biking, and carpooling to help this problem. But those will only do so much. People around the world need to all participate in solving this issue.
