No Meat, No Global Warming?

Global Warming is a huge problem that many people blame on cars, factories, and electric power but it turns out that meat has much more of an impact.  According the article "meat contributes between 14 and 22 percent of the 36 billion tons of "CO2-equivalent" greenhouse gases the world produces every year." If every one in the world ate just a couple less meals with meat each week that would make so much of a difference. And imagine if we stopped eating meat altogether, global warming might not even be that big of a problem.

  1. Can't believe meat has such a large effect on global warming! Does it have to do with the way it is manufactured or the animals to begin with? I think what you are offering is very logical yet I think it starts with those who sell the meat and what the entire industry would lose if meat portions were to be decreased. From what I've seen and researched, those who make the most money deteriorating our planet tend to care less about it. In what scientific ways do you see this problem being resolved?

  2. Just curious- how would humans not eating meat fix anything? Wouldn't it be more about modifying the way the meat is packaged and produced? Humans need meat to live; it's why we evolved into animals that make things-- because we started eating meat and our brains were able to increase in size and capability. Shouldn't we focus more on the suppliers than the buyers in this circumstance? That's very interesting, though.

  3. It's unbelievable to think that the livestock that humans raise are responsible for such a large portion of CO2 emissions. However, if we were to stop eating meat entirely, wouldn't the other major releasers of CO2 and other greenhouse gases still have an effect on our atmosphere? Although it is not widely known, humans weren't created to digest meat! This was a great article and it provided some insight as to how we can improve.

  5. Wow! I had no idea that meat had such a big impact on global warming. The percentage of CO2 it is releasing into the atmosphere is much more then I would have thought. Is it the meat itself that is causing the problem or the way that the meat is being produced and packaged? I think the factories pumping out the meat and getting it ready to be sold are damaging the atmosphere a lot, not the meat itself, however you are still right that if we all ate less meat it would help because less would have to be produced. Another solution could be finding some way to make the actual process more eco friendly.
